American artist Paul McCarthy has erected his latest Christmas-themed work, “Tree,” and it has plugged up Paris’s Place Vendome for the FIAC Contemporary Art Fair. Regardless of how you feel about the 80-foot-tall work, and its symbolism, I think we can all agree that the massive inflatable sculpture is not only supposed to be a Christmas tree.

As promised to 0athenachan0 here are my trade tools. some of these I use A LOT and some I haven’t used in a while. Let’s make this a useful post and let’s rec some brand for those who are interested:

  • watercolors are in great part winsor&newton artist quality and Daler-rowney. not sure if I’d recommend either.
  • pastels are Jaxon and Jaxells
  • the colored pencils are derwent and caran d’ache. While I would not piss on caran d’ache as a brand, derwent is definitely much much better. especially the two lines I use: inktense and graphitint (now out of production)
  • for brushes I use mostly sable for watercolor and synthetic and hog bristle for oil and acrylics. best brand I’ve ever found is http://www.rosemaryandco.com/ and their ‘ivory’ synthetic is an artist’s wet dream
  • For paper (mostly watercolor because that’s what I work with) I prefer either ‘Fabriano Artisti’ ‘fabriano: blocco per artisti’ or my personal favorite ‘Cartiera Magnani acquerello’, unfortunately the cartiera magnani closed a couple of years ago after more than 500 years of operations so it’s kinda difficult to find. If I want to use a cheap one I go for the ‘Fabriano studio’
  • inks are talens’ Ecoline, but I kinda hate them so I really can’t say.
  • oils are talens’ Rembrandt and Maimeri artisti and those pigments I have no money for are Maimeri classico.
  • acrylics are liquitex
  • the pen tablet is a intuos 5 touch with both the normal pen and the art pen

Happy 89th Birthday Angela Lansbury!
(October 16, 1925)

Birthdays have never been tough for me. Aging simply opens up new pages of possibilities. Age really doesn’t have any bearing on my ability to look forward with joy.
